Charles C. Brandt Construction Co. hosted seven guests at the October 23rd Economic Club Luncheon. The speaker was Anne-Marie  Slaughter and while Anne-Marie had many accomplishments in a number of areas, her topic of the day was gender equality. Her article “Why Women Still Can’t Have it All” was the most read article in The Atlantic, a magazine that has published many famous authors including Mark Twain and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

CCB staff members and guests were treated to an entertaining hour of thought provoking ideas regarding the next step in gender equality which may be more centered on men as they take a more active role in care giving. Removing gender bias and seeing men as true equals in sharing roles traditionally held by women is a key to removing gender bias.

Anne-Marie also made us aware of how care giving can stall careers that might otherwise be on a leadership tract. She affirms it is time to recognize the waste of quality in the workforce if employers look at care givers are less motivated or less intense employees.

On Friday October 10th, the owners of Park 100 Foods were presented with their original 1994 semi-tractor newly restored. The restoration of the truck was a gift from key members of the Park 100 team, including CCB, their construction professional for nearly two decades. We sincerely appreciate Park 100’s loyalty and their awareness of the value CCB brings to their team.

CCB pre-job meetings include looking at ways to reduce – reuse – and recycle. Our clients appreciate having the ability to make sustainable decisions regarding their project resources. Sometimes that means reuse on their project, sometimes it means an opportunity to donate to a good cause. These carpet squares from OneAmerica are finding a new home with Habitat for Humanity.
